“Babysitter Wanted” Reviewed by Pinheadspenpal
The film centres around Angie, a small-town devout kind of girl who has just moved to a new place for college. In dire need of a bed and therefore money, Angie takes a job as a babysitter and is hired by the Stantons to look after their son Sam. On the way to the middle of nowhere farm to babysit, Angie’s car breaks down but it’s all good as the dude from Kyle XY turns up to give her a lift and promises to fix the car.
Once at the farm, Angie is told Sam is asleep and Jim and Violet Stanton leave her for the night with instructions. What ensues is a terrifying (for Angie) night filled with weird phone calls, a scarred man, an oddball kid dressed as a cowboy and a bit of torture thrown into the mix – and ta-da! What you have is a nice little horror film that will leave you thinking “hm that little known film was darn good” or something along those lines.
In spite of its low budget, Babysitter Wanted is an excellent film and has more or less everything you’d want from a decent horror film – interesting storyline, good acting, some blood and gore and a cool twist that is revealed about half way through. Sarah Thompson, despite her actual age masquerades well as a college student and does offer great acting, creating a likeable character that you root for the whole way (side note which has nothing to do with the film but as you’ve already started reading you way as well carry on – it’s always nice to find characters you actually care about and want to see live unlike other typical teen horrors) anyway moving on from that oh-so-pointless side note, Kyle XY dude is also good. Matt Dallas, Angie’s love interest, has about fifteen minutes overall of screen time (give or take ten minutes) but in the brief moments he is there, he also creates a character that is likeable although it would’ve been better if he had more of a role. Speaking of Kyle XY the dad from that show is also in it and does boast some decent acting skills (don’t get me wrong I’m not a Kyle XY fanatic despite the fact I’ve probably mentioned it more than the film itself, it was just an observation that you will all make – if you’ve ever seen Kyle XY that is).
Right back to the film - the kid, cowboy Sam was very creepy – running around being annoying as most film kids are and the fact that you don’t see him for a while does make you wander if he is actually upstairs asleep (by ‘make you wander’ I mean me as it’s what I thought).
So to sum up, Babysitter Wanted is an original horror film with a great twist that brings the story together nicely with an ending that isn’t irritating or ambiguous it’s just a decent ending for a decent film. So if you ever get the chance to see this film, then go for it – definitely a good way to be entertained for 93 minutes.
