Personally,
I think The Evil Dead is one of the best horror movies ever made!
It has everything you can could ask for, gore, laughs, moments that make you cringe at the thought of what your seeing.
Basically, for me its one of the scariest movies I've ever seen!
Sometime in April 2011, Bruce Campbell had an AskMeAnything interview on Reddit.com.
He said "NEWSFLASH: We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man". He added "In all honesty, we would all love to make another Evil Dead movie. When that will happen?
Who can say - we're all working on other jobs right now. We're not trying to dodge anybody's questions, there just isn't that much to talk about. The remake's gonna kick ass - you have my word".
Should this remake be a big budget movie or a low budget movie??
The Evil Dead 2 was basically a remake of The Evil Dead telling the same story, but told in a different way, with a budget of $3,600,000 and a lot more comedy than scares! However I for one didn’t enjoy it as much as the original Evil Dead. This was because the effects looked very tacky and simply not as fun! It just didn’t have the same raw scary feeling to the movie!
With this new remake, I would personally like it to be low budget, in order to try and bring back the gritty look and feel that the original had. I really do hope they will add some quality special effects and gore, but still keep it with a similar look and feel to the 80's classic.
If it is made with a high budget and a lot of CGI, then it will possibly be made to look too modern and tacky, if you know what I mean?! I am someone who is not a big fan of CGI! It works great for action movies don’t get me wrong, but as far as horror movies go, puppetry, costumes and makeup, always have a more realistic and effcetive to feel than CGI, creating the feelings that are a must within a great horror!
For an example of how CGI falls short in a great horror movie compared to old fashioned Costumes, Puppetry and effects, look at Alien and Aliens, compared to Aliens 3 and Alien Resurrection. If you've seen them, I think enough said!
As this is a Remake of the original 1981 movie The Evil Dead, which had a low budget of $350,000 - $400,000, (although that was a lot more money back then), it would be nice to see the remake have a low enough budget to keep it true to the original movie. It would also be nice to see a cast of newbie actors just like what they did in the original, as opposed to seeing the same line-up of actors that you see in a lot of the more common horror films these days.
Because the original had young student actors that had never done a big movie before, we were able to see just how talented they were, and it made the movie feel more real, rather than watching a group of people that could easily be spotted in other horror movies.
I guess you could say it felt fresh and new!
To be honest, I think even now The Evil Dead stands above all the newest big budget horror movies, so is there really
any need to change how it was filmed by making a big budget remake ??
If it is kept as a low budget movie and they bring back some of the original effects/the stop motion camera technique and the puppetry. I believe the outcome will have the potential to be a classic like the original!
Im not sure what the budget plans are for the Remake, but it seems logical it would be over $10,000,000 - reasons being:-
Friday The 13th had a budget of $19,000,000,
A Nightmare on Elm Street had a budget of $35,000,000
The Crazies had a budget of $20,000,000
The Hills Have Eyes had a budget of $15,000,000
I am hoping they spend at least $5,000,000 on this movie, but hopefully no more than $10,000,000, as I really want to see Evil Dead being kept a low budget franchise.
I am a firm believer that a Bigger budget doesn’t always mean a better movie.
